Nairobi Institute of Business Studies
The Nairobi Institute of Business Studies is popularly known as NIBS and offers a wide range of business courses.
The college offers certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma qualifications that prepare them for careers in areas such as business administration, financial management, accounting and marketing.
NIBS students include high school leavers, university graduates who are interested in adding a professional diploma to their degrees, and employees who intend to improve their management or other professional skills.
The college offers regular (day) and evening programmes to cater to these different groups of students. It also has an open learning programme to take care of those who may not be able to attend classroom lectures.
Range of courses Diploma in Business Studies, Sales Management and Marketing, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management, Advanced Diploma in Project Management and Diploma in Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations.
Much as the college is founded on business disciplines, it also provides training in many other courses, such as travel and tourism, hospitality management, graphic design, pharmaceutical technology, IT, social work and community development, among others.
In addition to the regular studies, the institute has short programmes that are meant to start imparting basic work skills to school leavers even before their results are out.
They offer a school leavers package that is externally examined. The range of study is wide, about the programme. Some programmes in this category run for two months. Others go on for six months.
The packages are useful for future pursuits of the young students. They learn business issues, ICT, and accounts. The offer attracts Form Four leavers who can thereafter make a decision on whether to continue with the studies or not.
NIBS also organize short management courses through seminars, conferences, and workshops, for organizations and individuals. These are meant to tackle real issues that affect business operations and management in Kenya.
Campuses NIBS has four campuses within and outside Nairobi. Its main campus is on Ronald Ngala Street, Nairobi.
There is the Commonwealth House Campus and Agriculture House Campus, all within Nairobi’s central business district.
The fourth campus is in Ruiru town, about 30 kilometres from Nairobi. The Ruiru Campus was established to serve students who prefer to study away from Nairobi.
NIBS offers scholarships to needy students and provides career guidance and counselling to students.
